Last night November 10th, I woke up at 3am with the plans to test the new eyepieces Skywatcher 9mm and 6mm 58 degree UWA as well as catching a comet. The session started around 3:30 and ended before morning twilight.

DSO Testing – Orion Nebula M42

This was the first target to test the eyepieces. The results were far better than the original EPs shipped with Skywatcher 6″ dob. I compared the Super 10mm EP with 9mm UWA. Although there is a minor difference in magnification but the view was awesome. I then tried the 6mm UWA on the same object with and without Orion Blue filter. The blue filter adds up some good features to the nebula.

I have never viewed Orion Nebula in such a quality from our urban skies. These EPs are extraordinary.

Planetary Testing – Jupiter

Great field of view and the best contrast ever. I could see the weather patterns so beautifully than ever before. GRS was not visible that time.

My first comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy)

Comet was fantastic at least for the first time viewer. In low magnification (25mm EP) it was more like a globular cluster with a single star like point in the center. In 9mm it was a better Icy feast.

Mars – the tiny red planet

I am waiting for April 2014 when this red planet will be closest once again. Anyways it was a good introduction to this tiny red ball.

I also viewed some open clusters like M44, M41, etc and the views were just great.
